Formula One: Red Bull Racing confirm ExxonMobil Partnership

Screen Shot 2016-12-01 at 15.28.52.png

After months of speculation Red Bull Racing and ExxonMobil have confirmed a new partnership from 2017 and beyond. The partnership will see ExxonMobil become the official fuel and lubricant supplier for the team.

At this time it is not clear if the partnership will extend to Scuderia Toro Rosso. It is also not clear if Renault will also switch to ExxonMobil supply, and if Mclaren will retain ExxonMobil supply.

Should Renault maintain the Total fuel and lubricant supply partnership in 2017, Red Bull Racing running alternative fuel supply will necessitate a separate power unit development programme.

As a team partner, official fuel partner, official lubricant partner, and official motor oil partner of the team in 2017, ExxonMobil will provide Red Bull Racing with leading-edge Mobil 1™ lubricants and Synergy Race Fuels. ExxonMobil will deliver engineering support to develop next-generation lubricants designed to improve race car engine and gearbox performance.
The company’s Mobil 1 and Esso brands will feature on  cars, driver overalls and helmets, as well as being displayed at the Red Bull Racing Factory in Milton Keynes, and at trackside events.

Commenting on the partnership Team Principle Christian Horner remarked:

“Mobil 1 and Red Bull Racing are two global brands that share a passion for racing, performance and innovation. Mobil 1 has been an iconic brand in Formula One for more than 30 years and our new partnership provides us with a unique opportunity to tap into ExxonMobil’s world class expertise.”
Christian added: “In addition to welcoming ExxonMobil to the Red Bull Racing stable, I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to the technical team at TOTAL, who have made a valuable contribution to our success in Formula One during our partnership.”
Matt Bergeron, vice-president of marketing for ExxonMobil Fuels, Lubricants & Specialties Marketing Company, said: “Red Bull Racing provides a dynamic platform to showcase our world-class lubricant and fuels technologies. We are excited about building a relationship with Red Bull’s excellent young drivers who are establishing reputations as competitive racers and who will help showcase our brands to generations of consumers.”
The new ExxonMobil and Red Bull Racing partnership extends the Mobil 1 synthetic lubricant brand’s successful 38-year involvement in Grand Prix racing. Mobil 1 has lubricated more than 100 Grand Prix-winning cars, and has won six Formula One world drivers’ championships and five Formula One world constructors’ championships since entering the sport in 1978.
There will be more news to follow in the coming days on this and related stories.

As Formula One heads into the 2016 season climax in Abu Dhabi, Red Bull Racing duo Max Verstappen & Daniel Ricciardo got together to review the season. The highs, the lows, their favourite trophies, their hair! The drivers are at the most open I’ve seen them.

Intriguingly both Max and Daniel, whilst acknowledging the value of their friendship they both comment they would be prepared to sacrifice friendship in return for the ability to challenge for the championship, as they have seen with Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

Formula One: Toro Rosso confirm Kvyat will partner Sainz in 2017

Screen Shot 2016-10-22 at 16.27.17.png
Scuderia Toro Rosso have confirmed that it is keeping Daniil Kvyat on for the 2017 season. With Carlos Sainz’s future in the team already assured since earlier this summer, it means that continuity is the name of the game.

In so doing the team have put an end to months of speculation around the future of Daniil Kvyat with the team and the Red Bull Driver programme. At this time the implications of the confirmation on GP2 championship challenger Pierre Gasly are unclear.

Daniil Kvyat: “Great news! I’d like to thank Red Bull, Dr. Marko and all the team for their support and the faith they have shown in me since I returned to the team earlier this year. I’m very happy to stay with a team that feels like home to me. I’m really looking forward to continuing the hard work together in 2017 and I’m really aiming high. I will always be fully dedicated, giving my 200%’, and I will be pushing as hard as I usually do, that’s for sure. I’m delighted!”

Carlos Sainz: “Considering how many changes there are in the Formula 1 pipeline for 2017, it’s good to know that Daniil and I will continue to be teammates here at Toro Rosso next year. We know each other very well, as we’ve been racing together since 2010, and we work well together. I know that this season isn’t over yet, but I’m already looking forward to next year!”

Franz Tost: “It makes a change to announce our driver line-up relatively early. There are so many new elements coming to Formula 1 in general and to our team specifically, in terms of the change of power unit supplier, that having the same two drivers gives us stability and a benchmark to work from. For Carlos, it will be his third year with us, which speaks volumes when it comes to how highly we rate him. In recent races, it has been clear that Daniil is back on top form. I always told him that his future with us was in his hands and he has stepped up to the mark and delivered the sort of performances that have ensured his 2017 seat in the STR 12. We now have a very talented and strong driver pairing to tackle a season in which we expect to be very competitive.”

Formula One: VIDEO – Max Verstappen reflects on a challenging Monaco

Screen Shot 2016-05-31 at 11.58.39.png

Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen talks through his Monaco Grand Prix, analysing his struggles through the weekend, thanking the team for their support and hard work, and reflecting on his own personal challenge to keep the RB12 out of the walls as mentioned here on JWGP ahead of the GP weekend.

Looking ahead to Canada, Verstappen confirms that he will have access to the upgraded Renault Power Unit for the first time. Having tested the PU in Barcelona, Max is aware the unit will deliver additional power and improved drivability. When considering targets for the Canadian Grand Prix, Max is hoping for  clean weekend and feels a podium could be possible.

Formula One: Monaco Target “Stay out of the walls” Verstappen

Screen Shot 2016-05-22 at 22.55.38.png

After his sensational maiden win at the Spanish Grand Prix, Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen is keeping his feet firmly on the ground. Acknowledging the Red Bull Racing RB12 should be strong around the streets of Monaco, Max’s first target is simply to stay out of the walls. Something Verstappen didn’t quite manage in the 2015 running of the event, when whilst running 11th for Scuderia Toro Rosso miscalculated an overtaking manoeuvre against Romain Grosjean into Turn 1 in the closing stages of the race.

Verstappen goes on to comment that with a competitive car, he expects to be close the front end of the grid and believes a podium result could be possible.

Both Max and Daniel have high expectations for Monaco and the subsequent races in Canada and Baku, believing the nature of the circuits will suit not only the RB12 but their respective driving styles
“I always enjoy racing street circuits like Monaco because you are really pushing the limit and are very close to the walls, it gives you a great feeling that you are on top of your car and getting the most out of it.” Comments Max

As the only team to win a race besides Mercedes in 2016, Red Bull Racing are now regarded by pundits and bookies as the team most likely to challenge the Silver Arrows in Monaco. After a successful in season rest in Barcelona, Renault look set to introduce the B-Spec power unit for both the Renault works team and Red Bull Racing (under Tag Heuer branding) Sources within Renault claim the updated Power Unit could be worth as much as 0.5 seconds a lap.

Despite this, it is still possible to gets odds of 10/1 on either Verstappen or Ricciardo to win on Sunday with William Hill. With a podium for one of the drivers looking achievable, an each way bet might be worth considering.
