Scuderia Toro Rosso have announced  that Sérgio Sette Câmara will drive our current STR11 car at the forthcoming Formula 1 test at Silverstone Circuit, following the 2016 British Grand Prix.
The 18 year old Brazilian is a member of the Red Bull Junior Team and is currently in his second year of competition in the FIA F3 European Championship. Sérgio started his racing career in karts in his native Brazil back in 2006 and his switch to single-seater cars came last year with the move up to Formula 3. This season, Sette Câmara is currently lying 7th in the series.
“I’m very happy and excited to be testing with Scuderia Toro Rosso”, commented Sérgio during today’s visit to Faenza.  “It’s a great opportunity which I’ve worked very hard for and I’d like to thank everyone who has made this possible, especially Red Bull. This will be my first official Formula 1 test and I will make sure I do the best job possible as well as have fun – it’s not something that happens every day! Silverstone is a great track which I know quite well as I’ve already driven there before, so this will definitely help me on the day to focus on the car and all the new information without having to learn a new layout at the same time. I just can’t wait to drive out of the garage, it will definitely be a moment I will never forget!”
For this two-day test, Sérgio is planned to drive on Wednesday (13th July – Day 2), taking over from Carlos, who is scheduled to be at the wheel on Tuesday (12th July – Day 1).
Our Team Principal Franz Tost said: “Giving young drivers, mainly those from the Red Bull Junior Team, a real taste of Formula 1, is something we have become accustomed to doing at Toro Rosso. Personally, I find it fascinating to see how these youngsters adapt, not just to the extra power, downforce and braking of a Formula 1 car, but also how they react to the pressure of a day in the F1 spotlight. It provides a valuable insight into how they might progress in the future. Therefore I am pleased to welcome Sérgio to our team for the day and I hope that it will be a mutually beneficial experience.”
Teams participating in mid season tests are obliged to run a young driver on at least one day. STR are fulfilling this obligation with Sérgio Sette Câmara. It is thought unlikely he is being considered for a full time drive with the team in 2017.

Scuderia Toro Rosso have announced that John Booth has joined the team on a consultancy basis as the director of racing:

“Scuderia Toro Rosso is pleased to announce that, with immediate effect, John Booth
will begin working with the team on a consultancy basis in the role of
Director of Racing. The Englishman, who has wide ranging experience in all forms of motorsport, including Formula 1, will take up his responsibilities as from this weekend’s Russian Grand Prix.
“It is a great honour to join such a well-established and competitive team as Scuderia
Toro Rosso” said John Booth.
“It is a team that has achieved so much in a relatively short space of time. I am looking forward to getting started and working with Franz and the team this weekend in Sochi.”
Team Principal Franz Tost commented:
“I have known John for many years and I am delighted to welcome him to the team. Formula 1 is becoming evermore complex,
with recent changes on the tyre front, car set-up, radio communications and so forth.
Therefore, having a competitive car and talented drivers, both of which we have, on
its own is not enough. With his vast experience I am sure John will help the team raise
its game and become a more effective force over a race weekend.”

Responding to the announcement, partner of the Manor Endurance Racing team, Graeme Lowdon, has confirmed via Twitter that John remains part of the Manor WEC team and will be present at the 2nd round of the championship coming from Spa. It is not yet clear how John will split his time between the Le Mans 24hrs weekend and the Grand Prix of Europe in Baku.

Formula One: Carlos vs. Max STR factory sprint challenge

The toughest STR challenge so far? Did Max take a short cut….???

STR Russian GP Preview:

Max: “The first thing I remember from Russia is my good qualifying! It’s always good to start the race from the highest spot possible and starting P9 in Russia meant already being in the point’s positions…
Even though we unfortunately didn’t have a good start in the race: I arrived to Turn 1 and Hulkenberg spun in front of me, we collided in Turn 2 and I had a puncture. It wasn’t great, as I had damage on the car and it all got very tricky but I still tried to do my best. The track itself has many 90 degree corners, so it’s difficult to find the right line. Turns 13 to 16 are a complicated section of the track, as they are all slow-speed corners and if you get the positioning right you can gain a lot of lap-time there. My favourite part of the track is Turn 3 because it’s flat out and goes past all the Olympic flags, which you can see when you arrive to Turn 2.After a strong race in China , I hope for another good result in Sochi”
Carlos: “When racing in Sochi, at the start of the lap there’s a lot of slipstream, so it’s possible to arrive to Turn 2 with four cars side by side…
One thing I don’t like, especially here at this second corner, is the wide tarmac run-off areas, where a lot of cars just run wide instead of committing to the corner. Turn 3 is a very nice corner which is flat or very close to it”
I remember that Turn 4 is a good overtaking spot. After that there are four consecutive 90 degree corners before arriving to the back straight. Turn 13 is another good place for overtaking, but what this part of the circuit brings to mind is my terrible crash from last year – I’d say the biggest of my career so far. The final part of the circuit consists of another four 90 degree corners. The  walls are also pretty close throughout the lap, which makes it a bit more of a challenge.

Last year’s race was quite exciting so I hope for another one like that and tobe able to continue scoring points”

Formula One: Wings for Life brings Max and Carlos together

Screen Shot 2016-03-26 at 09.48.38.png

A week prior to second Grand Prix of the season, Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz made time for an important cause: Wings for Life. Both Scuderia Toro Rosso drivers were filmed in the Netherlands for the running contest, which will be held in 33 countries on 8 May. In a relaxed and friendly manner, both team mates were up against each other.

Max and Carlos will not run themselves but are enlisted to drive the so-called “Catcher Car”, effectively a moving finish line. They will set off half an hour after the start and will “sweep” up contestants along the way. Whoever is caught, is out of the race. Across the planet, all contestants will start at the same time, regardless if it is day or night. The last contestant running will be the winner.

On Friday, Max and Carlos were trained and instructed by Colin Jackson, the hurdling triple world champion and sporting director of the Wings for Life World Run. The F1 aces have adhere to the speed limit which starts at 15km/h. Not an easy things for the young racers to do. Check the live snapchat recording on the RedBull account if you want to see how the boys did.

Are you up for the challenge to stay ahead of Max and Carlos? Sign up for the Wings For Life World Run.
