The Sahara Force India Formula One team have secured a 5 year agreement with Diageo brand Smirnoff (Vodka) to the value of $15 million per season.
The agreement forms part of a settlement between Diageo and team co-owner Dr Vijay Mallya over the sale of United Spirits Limited. Full details of the settlement can be found on the Diageo website through this link.
During negotiations surrounding this settlement the team have been keen to highlight that proceedings have no impact on the day to day management of the team. It is positive that within the conclusion it has been possible to ensure a level of financial security.
Team management can now turn their attentions to the proposed sale the Sahara Group’s stake in the team. During the launch of the VJM09 many observers made reference to the ‘temporary’ nature of some of the branding on driver’s race suits.
A pretty big commitment from Smirnoff, does that kind of money make them a title sponsor these days?

Hard to say. For a team like SFI 15m a year will certainly take the pressure off finding additional funding. It will be interesting to see how much branding they get on the car through the year.
